The Newcomer EDI Task Group compiled a playlist of relevant and local podcast episodes on diversity and inclusion in the workplace, to elevate newcomer stories from the Greater Toronto Area. The playlist is free to access on Spotify and can be found HERE.
Mainstreaming EDI in the Workplace: Challenges & Successes
The Newcomer EDI Task Group ran a collaborative online session on June 16th, 2022 from 10-12pm featuring keynote speaker, Dr. Catherine Chandler-Crichlow and 4 panelists (Laurel Falconi, George Mitrovski, Hanaan Mahamoud & Ellah Mangwiza) from diverse sectors. We had a deeper discussion on potential challenges and successes experienced by employers when implementing Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in their workplaces, and the unique barriers newcomer jobseekers and employees face in accessing meaningful job opportunities. We explored how we could build stronger partnerships and awareness between service providers and employers to ease the process. We then had breakout discussions with audience members. The event had 43 participants, including employers from the private sector in North York and across the GTA.
