Santé et bien-être

Bringing together service providers in North York and Scarborough, the Health & Wellbeing Working Group helps shape a health care system that is holistic, responsive, culturally sensitive, and aligned with the unique barriers faced by newcomers.

priority issues

1

Access to Primary Care & System Capacity

Improving newcomer access and attachment to primary care providers through stronger community partnerships, increasing newcomer
understanding of the Canadian healthcare system, including the role of family doctors and nurse practitioners, and improving culturally responsive
and language-accessible healthcare navigation and outreach support for newcomers and seniors with low digital literacy.

2

Mental Health & Culturally Responsive Care

Reducing stigma around mental health among newcomer communities, adopting a culturally-sensitive and language-specific, holistic approach using the social determinants of health to address newcomer mental health, and improving navigation barriers (language barriers, awareness of services, etc.) among newcomer communities (youth and families).
