Since the onset of the war in Ukraine, Canada has welcomed over 200,000 Ukrainians, including thousands of youth who continue to face challenges in resettlement. Many Ukrainian youth grapple with the trauma of displacement, language barriers, interrupted education, and the need to adapt to new cultural and social norms. According to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), more than 70% of Ukrainian newcomers are of working age or younger, highlighting the importance of addressing youth education, employment, and mental health needs.
This session focused on:
- Understanding the unique challenges faced by Ukrainian youth as they navigate new environments and systems.
- Practical strategies and insights for service providers to offer more tailored and impactful support.
- Resources highlighting programs and services to enhance engagement and meet their needs effectively.
This session was delivered by Olha Ihnatova, Settlement Counsellor (TNO-The Neighbourhood Organization).
