Lunch & Learn: Construction Labour Market Information

On April 9, 2025, the TNLIP hosted an insightful Lunch & Learn session designed for newcomer service professionals supporting clients in securing meaningful employment within Toronto’s thriving construction sector.

This session was particularly timely, following Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC)’s recent update, which added construction-related occupations to the Express Entry priority categories. This change aims to address critical labour shortages while creating clearer pathways to permanent residence for skilled newcomers.

This webinar also responded to attendee feedback from past Lunch & Learn sessions—where construction emerged as a top area of interest—as well as insights from TNLIP’s Employment & Labour Market (ELM) members, who highlighted a strong demand for sector-specific labour market information.

What Was Covered?

  • Current workforce trends in Toronto’s construction industry,
  • Employment pathways for newcomers and equity-seeking groups,
  • Training and certification requirements,
  • Strategies to help newcomers successfully navigate and build careers in this high-demand field.
