Facilitating Culturally Appropriate Conversations With Families of Children With Disabilities Part 1

The TNLIP and SAAAC Autism Centre hosted Part 1 of a 2-part webinar series on Tuesday May 30th, 2023. The theme of this webinar was “How to Facilitate Culturally Appropriate Conversations: When Talking to Black and South Asian Families of Children with Disabilities.” This 2 hour session was tailored to professionals in the newcomer serving sector and the health care sector who work with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds, specifically Black and South Asian communities. This capacity building event was meant to bring awareness to the topic of cultural competence, cultural norms, barriers to access and strategies on how to be more culturally proficient when working with clients from these communities, while keeping in mind the unique challenges they face, and how practitioners can communicate effectively in order to serve these communities better.
