On Monday October 21st, TNLIP hosted the second annual Food Leaders Networking Event at North York Civic Centre. This event brought together food leaders from across North York, including those from community gardens farms, food security advocates, food programs leads from settlement and health organizations, grassroot organizations, community kitchens, food banks, city staff, and many more. This year’s event focused on the food crises, food systems, and long term strategies, as well as forming strong relationships and connections between the food leaders of North York. The day’s activities included a keynote address from Mayor Olivia Chow, presentations by Sarah Watson and Lianne Holland of North York Harvest Food Bank, a community consultation on the City of Toronto Poverty Reduction Strategy’s Food Charter updates led by Leslie Campbell, and a presentation by University of Toronto’s Culinaria Research Centre’s Dr Jayeeta Sharma.
